Thing 1: Blogging

Wow, blogging. Love reading other's, but never thought of doing one myself. It's one of those "out of your comfort zone" things. Sharing thoughts with those who don't know you and who you don't know....but that is the reality that our students live and thrive in. It's time to join them!

I am a second career School Library Media Specialist at an elementary school in Ballston Spa, New York. My greatest joy is watching a student wonder about a new topic or idea, find the "perfect" book, observe their predictions crash and burn when they research a topic or attempt to create something that doesn't quite go their way, and then they reflect an open their minds to look outside of the box. That is why I do what I do and that is what energizes me and keeps a smile on my face.

So much in this world is changing at such a fast pace. Children need to be given the opportunity to be children (which sounds crazy because that is what they are supposed to be) but we, as educators, need to be at the forefront of what our students might be encountering so that we can guide them through it. This is why I feel that participating and engaging in Cool Tools for School is so important.
